Can you believe what is going on about the “Deflate Gate” story, soon to be a cover-up and national scandal. As I understand it, even if the Patriots admit to wrongdoing, it is a fine with a minimum penalty of $25,000. Over the last 2 days, the number of reporter hours, commentary and TV time devoted to this “scandal” is mind boggling. Countless personalities have been making the point of the “Integrity of the Game” is at stake and how awful an example for our children if “cheating” is looked upon as a minor deviation.
Give me a break. Truth be told, there is no integrity in politics, business, or sports. Face the facts. In politics, anything goes. To take it to the extreme – a rouge group of murderous terrorists overtake a government – and once the coup d’état is successful, the rouge group of murderous terrorist become the recognized government officials of the country. By comparison, our conniving politicians seem like pussycats, but I don’t hear anyone claiming high ethics in this arena.
How about the banks? They have mastered the art of paying enormous fines for fraudulent behavior and the only factor of concern is whether they beat the street on the current quarter earnings report. Last week was bad news for the banks because their legal costs of defending their fraudulent behavior was so high it depressed earnings. I don’t recall anyone fretting about the “Integrity of our Major Banks” and what kind of example this sets for our children.
Bottom line – integrity starts in the home – the example we set for our children and the standards we maintain for ourselves. In sports, there are athletes that do demonstrate integrity – and others do not. It’s not the game; it’s the person. Enough of “Deflate Gate” – the media needs to concentrate on the big picture – which I think is to trample ISIS and their related scum. We need to focus on what we need to do to – for ourselves and our family.
