After watching the stock market this week, coupled with global economic uncertainty, the ISIS threat and Ebola – I can’t think of a better headline for our upcoming Seminar – “Advice for Seniors – Preserving Assets as Age and Elder Issues Arise.” The seminar is FREE – and will be held next Wednesday, 6:30 to 8:00 PM at our Conference Center at our offices in Bingham Farms. You and your friends are invited. Elder Law expert Pat Simasko from Simasko Law will be our featured presenter at the seminar.
The focus takes into account that there comes a time when it is no longer about “Wealth Creation” as much as it about “Preservation.” This topic crosses many issues. The older we live, the greater chance that the need for nursing home or attendant care will arise. MEDICAID funds are available to address costs – as are Veteran Benefits for attendant home care but planning is needed in order to take advantage of these programs. The consequence of no planning – is a rapid decline in a person’s life savings, when nursing home costs absorb $9,000 per month (or more!). Beyond care issues – our discussion will focus on the need for differing investment strategies for the person who “Cannot Afford to Lose.” This means – reduce risk and work toward obtaining a reliable income stream to carry you forward. You don’t want to risk it all – and then end up fending for yourself with only your social security benefits. In this context, we’ll also address elder law creditor issues – in particular under water property and credit card debt.
This seminar is right for you – if planning for your elder years – or just as important – if your parents are at that stage. Our new show is Law and Reality – the “reality” is that there comes a time when the child needs to lead the parent through the last stages of life. That is the good result – because you have the chance to return the effort for which you were the recipient for many years. To sign up, click the link below or call our office at 248.645.1700.
I hope to see you there. Have a nice weekend and be sure to listen in on Saturdays from 8:30 to 10 AM on WDFN 1130 AM – on iHeart at CLICK HERE!– and watch the show on TV 20 on Sundays at 11 AM. Law and Reality is not just information – it’s entertainment!
